Meet the team
This past season we had an incredible group of gardeners and volunteers. We worked hard to build community with other gardeners, we utilized under-used areas and expanded our footprint through bringing on new gardeners. At the end of the season we were thrilled by the engagement and the vegetables we were able to grow and the events we were able to put on, but we knew that we could do more, so this off season, Brandon and Jeremy worked on securing funds through a variety of grants which included grant funds from a variety of sources, and a partnership with the Inland Northwest Nature Connection (INNC) which enabled us to expand the garden team!
This partnership with the INNC has enabled us to hire a part time expert in garden education to teach classes for STAR Club students as well as building relationships at the Millwood Community Garden and helping teach gardening classes to community members there as well. We hired Amy Hendricks to fill this role and we couldn’t be more excited. She has spent over 18 years working in the nonprofit sector, and is the co-founder of Global Neighborhood, an organization providing job training for former refugees. She holds a degree in Sociology from Whitworth University and a Certificate in Organic Agriculture from Washington State University. Amy has worked on small farms and orchards, and has designed edible and native plant gardens for residents throughout Spokane. She is passionate about fostering human connection to nature, growing food, and ensuring children have access to experiences of awe in the natural world. Amy makes her home in Spokane with her husband, Brent, and their two sons, and can most often be found in the garden.
Our resident social media expert is Jamie Oxos! She has been working with Jeremy as a social media intern to help grow the digital footprint of the Millwood Community Garden. We want to do our best to communicate as clearly as possible the goals of the garden, the work we are doing to improve what we are doing there and to clearly communicate ways to get involved. Jamie has started an instagram account for the Millwood Community Garden and we also have a Facebook page. Our goal is to keep up to date information there, so you can stay informed in a multitude of ways.
