our programs

Millwood Impact serves 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders from Orchard Center, Seth Woodard, & Ness Elementary through our after-school program called STAR Club. STAR Club is made possible through the commitment of our volunteers - many of whom are educational professionals, NHS students, college interns, and West Valley community members.

We believe everyone should have access to healthy foods. That’s why we took over the Millwood Community Garden where we offer education classes, and space/beds to have the community grow their own healthy food. We partner with Women and Children Free Restaurant that supply scratch-made meals for families in need. Sign up below to receive free MEAL DISTRIBUTION on the first and third Thursday of the month!

AGES: 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders from Orchard Center, Seth Woodard, & Ness Elementary.

SCHEDULE: Monday - Thursday 3:30-5:30pm when school is in session.

DETAILS:

  • STAR Club is an after-school program designed to invest in the relationships of 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students alongside caring adults who live or work in the community. We find, train, and equip adults and high school students (junior mentors) to be strong, kind, and committed figures in the lives of young people in our community.

  • Mission for STAR Club:  We provide a safe environment where students have the opportunity to feel secure in themselves & in their relationships with their mentors and grow in their curiosity.

  • If you are interested in learning about our program evaluation data, please contact Peyton, our program director, at peyton@millwoodimpact.org to schedule a meeting!

Studies show that five or more connected adults outside of the students’ parents, gives them a four times higher chance of avoiding at-risk behavior.

Our goal is to have consistent adults involved in STAR Club that build sustainable relationships with our students.

The goal for mentors is to “be with” the students and care for them - not because they achieved anything, but just because they exist. The hope is that mentors can walk alongside these students as they move from one grade to the next.

“The kids that I have had involved in STAR Club LOVE going and have lots of fun. They really like the attention they get and the activities that they get to do there, including life skills like sewing and cooking.“

- 5th grade teacher at Orchard Center
